Singaporean artist Nicholas Ong was trained as a painter at LASALLE College of the Arts. He focuses on the perception of materiality and intangibility, with an oeuvre that incorporates dimensions of painting and light as his medium.
Absurd Theatrics is the present culmination of Nicholas Ong’s exploration of the sensation and the sensory reception to the correlative relationship between the two dimensional surface and three dimensional space. Driven by an intuitive process, Ong’s practice is grounded in the exploration of personal sensibilities manifesting in perceptual reasoning and contextual understanding through the experimentation of formal qualities of paint and light and driven by an interest in filmic language and cinematic tableaux. The solo presentation explores themes of physical and psychological experience, experimenting with the structure of precepts and stimulus as a medium for experience and perception.
